Friday May 9, residents and guests gathered at Colonial Vista Retirement and Assisted Living in Wenatchee WA to celebrate Anne Boersma who was named Frontier Retirement’s 2008 Resident of the Year. She was given the award by Greg Roderick, President, and Matt Dunham, Chief Operating Officer, of Frontier Management. The same morning Mayor Dennis Johnson recognized Boersma by issuing a proclamation, one of only a handful in his term as Mayor.
Boersma moved into Colonial Vista Retirement in 1993. She has always promoted neighborly good will, particularly with those neighbors in her corridor. For years she has hosted a monthly breakfast in Colonial Vista’s dining room for her hall-mates on the third floor of Vista Main. She has also faithfully served as a hall monitor, by making rounds every morning to make sure everyone is up and at ‘em. New residents find Boersma a source of friendship and good will.
Boersma’s activities also included helping the residents in other areas of Colonial Vista as she mans a small office where each week she sells stamps, cashes small checks, and receives rent. As the lead she has trained and supervises many of the other resident office volunteers.
Colonial Vista Retirement Administrator, Penny Carpenter, says, “Anne has a kind, gracious manner that draws people to her.”
Frontier Management’s Resident of the Year Award seeks to recognize individual residents who have made an extraordinary contribution to the community as a whole over the previous year. This program recognizes the achievements of an individual resident for contributions that have positively influenced the quality of life of other residents or resident’s families; improved the quality of life of people in the surrounding town or city by their actions; or improved the quality of the working environment for Frontier’s employees or their families. Boersma was chosen Resident of the Year from Frontier’s over 1,500 residents.
